gisela pulido and fly

Nulo partner Gisela Pulido has dominated the world of kitesurfing for more than two decades. A Spanish kitesurfer from Premià de Mar, she became the sport's world champion for the first time at age 10, earning a Guinness World Record as the youngest kitesurfing world champion in history. She has gone on to claim ten world titles across the sport's highest level and represented Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in the inaugural Formula Kite competition. Gisela has spent a lifetime pushing the limits of what's possible on the water.

Beside her, through all of it, is Fly, her nine-year-old Border Collie. Calm and settled indoors, Fly transforms the moment they step outside, running back and forth along the shoreline while Gisela kites, matching her energy from the beach. Gisela adopted Fly when he was two years old, and from day one, she knew it was meant to be. He's her morning walk, her reset, and her grounding point in a life built around performance. Gisela sat down with our team to share more about what Fly means to her and why she trusts Nulo to keep him fueled.

Tell us about Fly — his breed, his age, and what he's like.

Fly is a Border Collie, and he's nine. He's very calm in the house, but very active outside. We love to go on walks together to reconnect, and he loves when I'm kiting and runs back and forth while I'm in the water. He has this really nice energy: quiet at home, but full of life outside.

What does Fly mean to you as a teammate and companion?

I adopted Fly when he was two years old, and he’s my first dog. From that day, it felt like it was meant to be. We are always together unless I'm traveling and can't bring him with me. We love each other so much. If he's not there, I feel like something is missing, and the same goes for him. My perfect day would be to wake up, pet him, and go for a walk together.

How has Fly supported you through your kitesurfing journey?

Since Fly arrived in my life, he's been a very important part of me. Whenever I can, I take him with me to competitions. He gives me unconditional support. I know he'll wait on the beach while I'm in the water, and give me energy and cuddles when I come back. We also have a really nice routine — walking together in the morning after breakfast — which helps me reconnect and gives me energy for the day.

How has Fly supported your mental health as a professional athlete?

Fly is a way for me to stay calm. When he's with me, I'm a lot more relaxed and easygoing, and I have more trust in myself. During competitions, that's really important. If he's there, I know everything will be fine. He's like my soulmate and my best partner. I actually have to work with a psychologist during competitions when I can’t bring him — like at the Olympic Games — because I'm so used to having him around all the time. Having him close gives me balance and emotional support.

Why is nutrition important to you as an athlete?

I'm always practicing sport, and in the end my body wears. Food is the fuel that keeps you going and a key part of performance. You need enough protein to recover properly and be ready for the next day. I try to eat as little processed food as possible and keep things healthy. That approach has been a huge part of my success.

Why is Fly's nutrition important to you, and why did you choose Nulo?

If nutrition is important for me, it's obviously important for Fly too. I'm really conscious about what he eats. He's also getting older, so I want to make sure his food supports his digestion, energy, and overall health. I want him to live as long as possible — and I know that starts with feeding him well. Fly is an athlete like me. He runs, plays, and swims. I chose Nulo because it gives me confidence that I'm feeding him the right thing — quality ingredients, great nutrition, and variety so he never gets bored. We take care of our pets the same way we take care of ourselves. It feels like something I can trust, and I know it's good for him.
