Education

Dr. Mendoza holds a B.S. in Animal Science (Pre-Veterinary Science) and an M.S. in Agriculture (Monogastric Nutrition), both from California State Polytechnic University, along with a Ph.D. in Grain Science & Industry from Kansas State University, where her research examined how modern pet food processing affects companion animal nutrition.

Dr. Heather Mendoza is Vice President of Product Development at Nulo, where she has spent more than a decade applying pet nutrition science to develop world-class innovations and advancing the brand's high-meat, low-carb approach to pet nutrition. Her path to Nulo began at the SuperZoo trade show, where a close friend and mentor introduced her to Nulo founder Michael Landa-an introduction that led to a dynamic role in product development and research.

Heather's responsibilities include new product development, quality assurance, and product safety across Nulo's growing portfolio. She has played a hands-on role in commercializing hundreds of products, collaborating with exceptional manufacturers and pet nutrition experts around the world to bring science-backed formulations from concept to shelf. Her areas of focus include gut health research and sustainability, two topics that continue to shape the future of the pet food industry.

Outside of the office, Heather is a mother of two and a lifelong animal lover who shares her home with a spirited Siberian Husky, Loki. She credits stepping outside of her comfort zone as a key driver of her professional growth, a philosophy that has guided her journey to becoming one of the passionate scientific voices behind Nulo's leading nutrition.
