  • Pick a pet food where the first 3-4 ingredients are meat, with only 1-2 leading ingredients as fresh meats, the remaining being specific, named protein meals (not by-product meals or meat and bone meals).
  • Avoid foods with high-glycemic carbohydrates like white potato, white rice and tapioca. Instead, look for low-glycemic carbs like oats, barley, sweet potato, chickpeas and lentils.
  • Check the guaranteed analysis on your dog or cat's food to ensure the nutrients below are in the below ranges:
  • When comparing a wet food guaranteed analysis to a dry food, ask the manufacturer for the wet food's dry matter percentage.
  • Ask your pet food company if their probiotic makes it through the intestinal tract, and any research they have to support it. As a reminder, here's ours (link to study about probiotic).
  • Look at the packaging before feeding your pet to ensure they are receiving the appropriate amount, while also taking their age and activity level into account.
  • Pick a food that is complete and balanced and aligns with your pet's lifestage.
