“Who are the most inclusive? Our pets! We might want to take a page out of their book. As I like to say, 'Nutrition and Love know no boundaries'. ”
As founder and CEO of Nulo, it’s important to me as a company that we put the best people in the best seats. And in our case that happens to skew heavy towards female and LGBTQ employees. Not surprising, as authentic ‘pet parents’ have a get-it factor that’s impossible to teach - and an unrivaled passion for being the absolute best advocates for dogs and cats.
Inclusion is not a matter of being politically correct; in our case it’s about fueling company growth and fostering a healthy, happy workplace for everyone to enjoy.
In the spirit of pride, we welcome two new members to our community:
Ted Allen Emmy-Award Winning Host and TV Personality
Before Antoni, Tan, Bobby, Karamo, and oh yeah, Jonathan—there was Ted Allen and the original “Fab Five.” Emmy Award-winner Ted Allen is the host of Chopped and Chopped Junior on the Food Network. When he isn’t filming, Ted spends his time enjoying his Brooklyn neighborhood with his family. He lives with his husband, Barry Rice – the owner of Full Circle Modern, and their three Maine Coon cats.
Immersed in the culinary world, there is no one more qualified than Ted to speak to the culinary experience of cat meal time. He wants Rufus, Milo and Flo to be living their happiest, healthiest lives so he uses Nulo’s Mix-It Meals™ to provide his cats with the variety they enjoy, and the nutrition he expects.
Ted’s mission is to inspire pet owners to look beyond the marketing to ensure solid nutrition is at the heart of what they’re feeding their pet, because after all, our pets are family. We’re proud to have Ted and his family join us on this mission.
Gus Kenworthy Silver Medalist Freeskier
Gus is most commonly recognized as an American Silver Medalist Freestyle Skier, but he is also a devoted advocate for equality. — Equality for the rights of people and pups alike.
It was just last year in February that Gus, with the help of the Humane Society International, heroically rescued 90 dogs from a ‘meat farm’ outside of Seoul. The Associated Press tagged along with boyfriend Matthew Wilkas to tour the grim facility and the coverage went viral. His activism piqued the interest of dog lovers on a global scale, bringing awareness to some 17,000 canine slaughter houses within the Republic of Korea.
It's been almost four years since Gus liberated himself by publicly coming out in the October 2015 issue of ESPN The Magazine. At age 24 he was understandably anxious and unsure of the future "consequences" the decision would have on his career... But today, Gus' clout is stronger than ever. He has over 1.2 million Instagram followers and will be playing Emma Robert’s boyfriend on the next season of American Horror Story.
He has mentioned numerous times that being true to himself has roused him to excel on the slopes. That being said, it comes as no surprise that Nulo would welcome Gus to Our Community. He truly is Fueled by Love.
A BRIEF NOTE FROM THE DESIGNER | NULO HQ - AUSTIN TEXAS | 05.07.19
For me personally, this story really hits home. As I write this article I can't help but express how much I can relate to Gus when he describes the feeling of a 'weight being lifted off his shoulders' after coming out. When I told my parents I was gay, their primary concern was the imaginary limits society would have on my happiness. My father was convinced that I would never have a career because of my "choice." Today he stands corrected as I have always slayed marketing for larger-than-life brands; including my current role: writing and designing for Nulo's Marketing Dept. My mother, an educator is also enlightened as she is an advocate to her numerous gay, lesbian and trans middle school students.
“I can vouch for Michael Landa on being inclusive, down-to-earth, and loved by everyone here at Nulo HQ. But more exceptional is his devotion to quality over profit when it comes to the food we produce. To my knowledge, every employee feeds Nulo because we truly believe it's the best pet food on the market.”
